Chelsea Bakehouse

The Chelsea Bakehouse1 is an architecturally consistent, 3 storey Georgian dolls house, with a bakery on the ground floor and living accommodation consisting of 4 spacious rooms and a substantial landing area on the two floors above. Inspired by the idea of the Chelsea Bun-House, (Pimlico Road) of Georgian times, and set cica 1750, it is the smallest building in the Anglia Dolls Houses range but is richly fitted out with some of the features of the larger dolls houses in the range. Built from birch plywood to 1/12th scale, this house is for the adult enthusiast who wants a shop that will be something special.

For orders from April 2016 the Chelsea Bakehouse now includes bowed shop windows and real slate flagstones on the ground floor.

Exterior

The bakehouse has double fronted multiple paned windows with a glazed central door. The panels above the shop windows will be hand-lettered with your choice of name. Outside the bakehouse front there is a pavement with grouted slate-effect flagstones giving access to the shop. Above the windows is a strip of feature lead effect flashing and a firemark.

Interior

The chocolate brown skirting boards, shown in the pictures, were common at that time and were designed to hide the scuffs and dirt that built up with hard wear. The staircase from the bakehouse emerges into a spacious landing area from which doors lead to the parlour, breakfast room and further stairs to the second floor. Access to this landing area is provided by an opening side panel.

3-arm black chandeliers are fitted to the parlour and main bedroom but everywhere else wall candles in black sconces are used, in keeping with the no-nonsense status of this commercial building.

Ground Floor

The spacious bakehouse area is paved with real slate flagstones and covers the entire ground floor. There is no skirting or coving in the shop area so that display units can be flush fitted to the walls. A cupboard staircase leads from the shop to the living accommodation above.

First Floor

The large first floor parlour and the morning room (or you could use it as an office) have dado rails and covings.

Second Floor

There are two good sized rooms on the second floor, each with fireplaces. These rooms could be used as bedrooms for a single family occupying the entire building or, as was often the case in Georgian times, multiple families would have rooms in the building with the poorest having the rooms at the top, with the most stairs to climb and furthest from the (often outside and communal) water supply.

Stairs

Stairs are a speciality of Anglia Dolls Houses. Although only a small shop there are two realistic cupboard staircases in which all the stairs are present including winding sections.
