Portico Wing

The Portico Wing is a Regency dolls house1 with 8 rooms set over five storeys. It is a stand-alone section from our Brunswick Mansion featuring the detailed tiled entrance portico and including two full width rooms: the elegant drawing room with a window seat and three full height windows looking onto a balcony with metal splats and a splendid bedroom with arch. It has an opening hipped mansard roof containing two attic rooms. Set right at the end of the Regency period, circa 1837 this grand terraced house is similar to the many imposing Regency properties found in Brighton.

It is possible to buy the Portico Wing on its own, or with the intention of adding the rest of Brunswick Mansion at a later date. If bought as a stand-alone dolls house we can modify the basement to contain a kitchen (like the stairs, this would normally come in the main section of the house).

Area

The Portico Wing has a service area between the pavement outside and the front of the house. The front door is approached through the grand tiled portico, whilst the servants would gain access via the steps into the area and then through the servants' door passing the butler's pantry with its borrowed light.

Interior

The Portico Wing has high ceilings that make the generously sized rooms seem airy and spacious and allow chandeliers to hang well. The proportions allow the serious collector ample scope to furnish the house with the sort of pieces normally associated with a grand Georgian dolls house that won't look cramped or out of place.

Basement

The basement of the Portico Wing has a butler's pantry with silver cupboard, sink and drainer with a decanter draining shelf above; the borrowed light window gives a view onto the bellboard in the servants' corridor. The butler's pantry also give access to a wine cellar with brick built storage. The pantry is accessed through a side-opening panel with an internal door leading to the kitchen in the main part of Brunswick Mansion.

Should you wish to just have the Portico Wing then it is possible to reconfigure these basement rooms to provide a kitchen.

Ground Floor.

The ground floor of Portico Wing has a light airy morning room with window seat and fixed shutters; this room could also make a spacious dining room. The black and white tiled entrance hall is backed with mirror glass. If you have the whole Brunswick Mansion then the hall continues onwards to reveal the main stairs.

First Floor

The first floor of the Portico Wing has a full-width drawing room with a window seat and fixed shutters. The three tall grand windows across the front of the drawing room look onto on a full width balcony with metal splats. There are doors either side of the drawing room fireplace: should you wish to just have the Portico Wing then these would both become dummy doors.
